Project - OVH Lab Environment

I purchased an OVH server to test and mess around within a controlled environment. I will use this environment as my main testing lab rather than my machine. This will allow me to host things such as a honeypot without the chance of me misconfiguring it and risking my home network, I can also run ransomware tests etc and basically break things without a care!

It will also help me get more familiar with particular technologies such as PFSense as my firewall, VMWare ESXI which I have somehow managed to avoid throughout my career.

My OVH environment costs around £30 a month. It is hosted in Germany as I couldn’t be bothered to wait for a server to become available within the UK. The specs are:

  • Intel Xeon D1520 - 4c/8t - 2.2 GHz/2.6 GHz

  • 32 GB ECC 2133 MHz

  • 4×2 TB HDD SATA

  • 250 Mbps incoming/outgoing
